Nice Shoulder Course - Current Concepts 2024

(Un)necessary Operations in Shoulder Surgery

The decision-making process in surgery is based on “standards of care” which are decisive as to whether an operation is necessary or unnecessary. Unfortunately, in the shoulder field, “standards of care” are not always (or not yet) well defined. This leads to misinterpretation and potentially wrong decisions… and unnecessary surgeries. Furthermore, the number of publications is dramatically increasing (“to publish or to perish”), with varying quality, bringing more confusion, and making the (young) surgeon’s decision even more difficult. Only objective scientific analysis of data, with long-term follow-up, can protect both the patient and the surgeon from unnecessary operations. This is what Emory Codman has termed the “end-result idea”.

This is the ambition of the Nice Shoulder Course – Current Concepts 2024: to help surgeons define the “standards of care” in shoulder surgery and help them avoid performing unnecessary operations. To this end, we will present objective data with long term follow-up from different surgical centers as well as critical analyses of the literature.

We hope that you will join us in Nice on June 6-7-8, 2024, to participate in this new and exciting adventure that will help you to deliver ever-better care for your patients.
